Ensemble Intercontemporain Marks its 40th Anniversary with a New Double Album, “New York”
On 10 March 2017, the internationally renowned Ensemble Intercontemporain releases New York, a double album marking the 40th anniversary of the legendary contemporary music ensemble.
Created by Pierre Boulez in 1976 and under the direction of Matthias Pintchscher since 2013, the 31-musician Ensemble Intercontemporain explores music from the 20th century to the present, shining a spotlight on American music for their latest collaboration with Alpha Classics. New York retraces a century of the city’s musical heritage, featuring Intégrales by Edgar Varèse (1924), Music for Wind Instruments by John Cage (1938), Instruments I for six instruments by Morton Feldman (1974), Eliott Carter’s Concerto for Clarinet and Ensemble (1996), Steve Reich’s WTC 9 /11 for string quartet (2009-2010), Blur by Sean Shepherd (2011) and Within his Bending Sickle’s Compass Come by David Fulmer (2014-2015).
Ensemble Intercontemporain will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a series of three special performances at the Philharmonie de Paris.
