New Album from Soprano Natalie Dessay and Pianist Philippe Cassard, “Schubert”
Since retiring from the opera stage in 2013, soprano Natalie Dessay has turned her focus to more intimate and eclectic musical projects. Known for her impressive onstage performances in Die Zauberflöte, La Traviata, of Les Contes d’Hoffman, she now takes on the lieder of Schubert with the help of French pianist Philippe Cassard. The first German album for Dessay, Schubert features 16 songs that blend music and poetry, including four lieder never before performed by a female vocalist.
The duo is supporting their album with a world tour, taking them to Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Carnegie Hall in New York, the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston, The Royal Conservatory in Toronto, and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris.
