Opera Fuoco at Beethovenfest Bonn 2017
Opera Fuoco, a French ensemble founded and directed by David Stern, will be performing alongside mezzo-soprano Karine Deshayes at Beethovenfest Bonn on 15 September 2017. The evening’s programme, entitled “Leonore and Marguerite”, will highlight the evolution of our musical tradition.
Opera Fuoco has raised eyebrows with a bold new concept: a fresh look at 18th- and 19th-century music from the standpoint of opera. Now it introduces the “Leonore Overture” of Ferdinando Paër, a composer highly successful in Paris at the time, while casting a sidelong glance at an opera written at the same time on the same subject: Beethoven’s “Fidelio”. Joining these works are a cantata by Xavier Boisselot, the highly talented offspring of a family of piano manufacturers, and Marguerite’s ravishing love-drenched romance from Berlioz’s “La damnation de Faust’” The evening ends with Beethoven’s effervescent Eighth Symphony in the “period sound” of its era.
Since its founding in 2003, the Paris-based opera company Opera Fuoco has been dedicated to the performance of lyric repertoire from the mid-18th century to the present. It combines an ambitious opera studio and a distinctive orchestral ensemble, featuring some of the leading instrumentalists performing on period instruments.
Stern devotes himself, with the help of his musical team, to working with young professional vocalists, offering large-scale opera productions. Opera Fuoco’s productions have taken the studio singers and the orchestra to halls such as Shanghai Symphony Hall, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Vienna Konzerthaus, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Lucerne and Evian Festivals, Lufthansa Festival in London as well as the Opera houses of Metz, Rouen, Reims, Orleans and La Rochelle.
